The oldest settlement in Tarrant County, Grapevine was originally settled in 1844 under the Lone Star flag of the Republic of Texas. Today Grapevine is known for its wineries (as a trendsetter in the wine industry with award-winning wineries and wine makers), historic venues at Nash Farm and around Main Street, as well as its many outdoor activities available around Lake Grapevine.
While Lake Grapevine is surrounded by opportunities for traditional lake activities – picnicking, boating, and fishing, including a wealth of parks around the lake and wide running / biking trails that meander through the woods around the lake, consider picking up a new skill like paddleboarding or surfing, or take a Segway tour of the trails around the lake!
Meandering through Historic Downtown Grapevine one will discover the quaint atmosphere of small local shops and eateries, enjoy the experience of a farmers market in the park pavilion and plaza, and even randomly drift along to live music wafting out of a coffee shop or bar and grill. For a wonderful view into the historic past of the area, be sure to stop by Nash Farm – the oldest operating farmstead in Tarrant County, full of interpretive programs, events, exhibits, and unique learning experiences as well.
Lest you think all is calm, quiet, and historic, however, Grapevine also offers activities and adventures at the Grapevine Vintage Railroad (experience a staged train robbery or a “Day out with Thomas”), Texas Star Dinner Theater, Palace Arts Center (live music and stage performances), Legoland Discovery Center, Grapevine Mills Mall, Sea Life Grapevine Aquarium, and various events at the Gaylord Texan and Great Wolf Lodge.
Finally, Grapevine is also becoming well-known for its tremendous line-up of festivals year-round, both for the entire family or just the grown-ups with their annual GrapeFest, ChocolateFest, Candlelight Tour of Homes, Jazz Wine Trains, Main Street Days, and the July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza over the lake.
As you can see, no matter what type of activity you might enjoy with your family or on your own (including a spa day), Grapevine has something for just about everyone. So take a look around the site here at GrapevineKidsGuide.com, where we are sure you will find something fun to enjoy with the whole crew!
